Consular Procedures – Embassy of Vietnam in Kuwait (2026 Official Guide)

1. Consular Legalization of Documents

⚠️ Critical 2026 Update:

As of September 11, 2026, Vietnam has officially implemented the Apostille Convention (Hague Treaty).

  • Before Sept 11, 2026: Documents issued in Kuwait must be certified by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then legalized by the Vietnam Embassy.

  • After Sept 11, 2026: Documents only require an Apostille Stamp from the competent Kuwaiti authorities to be used directly in Vietnam. No further legalization at the Embassy is required.

Commonly processed documents:

  • Educational degrees and certificates.

  • Commercial invoices and company registration profiles.

  • Birth certificates, marriage licenses, and criminal records.


2. Vietnamese Passport Services

For Vietnamese citizens living, working, or studying in Kuwait:

  • New Passport Issuance: For newborns or individuals who have never held a passport.

  • Passport Renewal: When your current passport is expired, out of pages, or damaged.

  • Lost Passport Replacement: Requires a lost property report from the Kuwaiti Police before applying at the Embassy.

Required Documents:

  1. Standardized application form.

  2. Two passport-sized photos (4×6 cm, white background, no glasses).

  3. Old passport or Vietnamese ID documents.


3. 5-Year Visa Exemption Certificate

Available for Overseas Vietnamese (Viet Kieu) residing in Kuwait or foreign nationals who are spouses or children of Vietnamese citizens.

  • Validity: Up to 05 years (linked to passport expiration).

  • Benefit: Allows multiple entries into Vietnam with a maximum stay of 180 days per entry without a separate visa.


4. Visa Procedures for Kuwaiti Citizens (2026)

Kuwaiti citizens have three primary methods to enter Vietnam:

  • Legalization Fee: Approximately 10–15 KWD per document (depending on type).
